MLPIA is a non-profit Maine corporation. We are a professional association for licensed private investigators, expert witnesses, investigative assistants and associate members.

Our membership encompasses a myriad of talent and expertise including former law enforcement, military, SIU and Federal investigators. MLPIA was founded on December 4, 1999 by a group of licensed investigators dedicated to fostering the professionalism and ethics of our industry.

MLPIA informs the investigative community of legislative changes and work as one voice to effect change in State and Federal legislation that would harm our clients. Our members are licensed by the Maine Department of Public Safety after an extensive background check and are overseen directly by the Maine State Police.

Private investigators are the only licensed professionals in Maine to enjoy that level of scrutiny. As an organization we recognize that we have a duty to our fellow man to conduct ourselves professionally, ethically and within the law. We would have it no other way!
